Monitor for insects and disease on a regular basis, and record results
When necessary, use appropriate control measures and keep detailed records of all treatments
Initiate follow-up monitoring to keep track degree of control
2. Cut tree as late as possible
Cutting trees as late in the season and as close to shipping as possible ensures freshness and decreases the incidence of hitcher pests
3. Practice good inventory control
Use good inventory control to ensure accurate tracking to identify the location and origin of all shipments
4. Avoid storing trees in muddy, weedy or grassy areas
To reduce exposure to unwanted pests and foreign material always store trees upright in clean pest free areas
5. Inspect trees during all phases of the operation
Ensure trees are inspected during pruning, shearing, harvesting, grading, baling, storage and loading
